Poverty-stricken, a boy from the valley got into drug peddling. Due to the extreme need for financial aid in order to get his elder sister married, Shabbir Ahmad Mir (27), a resident of Chitargam in Budgam, got into the drug business.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police Department arrested him with 2kgs of Hashish (Charas) worth 35 lakhs. Joint Commissioner Crime, Delhi Police, Ravindra Yadav, told a national daily that on 29th of April, SI Sukhbir Malik got a clue about Shabbir being around the Subash Marg area for a drug deal. So the entire police team along with DCP M.A. Rizwi went ahead to catch the dealer red-handed. Around 8:30 in the evening they got hold of Shabbir.
Upon interrogation, the convict told the police that he lived with his parents and two elder sisters, and his father was a labourer who had meager earnings. Having studied till 8th standard only, Shabbir couldn’t find any decent work. One day he happened to meet Rafiq, who is a local and part of drug trafficking in the valley. Rafiq gave Shabbir Seventy Thousand rupees and promised him huge profits in return for delivering the drug to different destinations.
Belonging to a very poor family and the thought of getting his sisters married into decent families, he accepted the deal and got into the business.
Shabbir came to New Delhi around the second week of April and stayed in Friends Hotel near the Jama Masjid Area. While he was looking for customers, the police got hold of him. He is now in the custody of Delhi Police.
