Victory of PDP in LS polls sign of better times ahead: Mir

Expressing gratitude of the party to the people of Srinagar district for contributing to the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recent LoK Sabha (LS) polls, the party Thursday stated that the wise political decision by people of the capital city has added credibility to the decisive mandate which the party received. Addressing a meeting of the party leaders and senior workers of district Srinagar, the party General Secretary, Mohammad Dilwar Mir, said the people of the city deserve an appreciation for playing an important role in the party’s historical win in the LS polls. He said the people of Central Kashmir have used their vote consciously, like that of South and North Kashmir, which would go in a long way to change the political discourse of the state. “It is not the PDP’s win but of the people who have made up their mind to change their destiny through vote,” he added.

Mir said Srinagar has suffered immensely under the ruling party during last more than five years and now by giving National Conference the taste of a defeat in the elections people have remarkably exhibited their power and brought in a much needed element of accountability into the performance of all political parties. “The defeat of NC in Srinagar parliamentary constituency will help to build the people’s trust in the electoral process which is a good omen and sign of better times ahead,” Mir said. He said the LS elections have laid foundation for a profound change not only in the government but in the entire system and by getting a decisive mandate PDP has now political and moral authority to speak for state and the people at the national level.Mir said PDP has grown into a reliable voice and a credible alternative to NC and people look up to it with hope and confidence for a better future.

Exhorting the party cadres to gear up for the assembly polls slated later this year, Mir said there is need of a new system in J&K which should be honest and humane enough to take care of people’s needs. He said NC has never taken the people serious and it has never allowed the state to get developed. “It was only with the emergence of PDP a new hope was generated among the people that things can be shaped in a positive way,” Mir said. On the occasion Mohammad Ashraf Mir, district president and MLC; Abdul Hameed Kohsheen, secretary co-ordination; senior leader party, Mohammad Khursheed Aalam; Nisar Ahmad Mandoo, Abdul Rauf Bhat, Mohammad Maqbool Baig, A R Kuchay, Mohammad Shafi Mir, Noor Mohammad Shiekh, Mudasir Khan, Haji Parvez, Mohammad Latif Mir, Sajad Wani, Sajad Rather and others were also present.
