JAMMU: The snowfall, which began in the late afternoon on Friday, continued in most parts of the valley this morning, they said, adding it is one of the heaviest snowfalls in the recent years in the plains of Kashmir.
The higher reaches of the valley received heavy snowfall which has led to closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and other road links, a spokesman of the Traffic Control Room here said.
The spokesman said that vehicular movement has been stopped on Jammu-Srinagar highway due to the snow accumulation on Banihal, Nowgam, Jawahar Tunnel Sector, adding that decision regarding allowing the vehicular shall be taken after clearance of the road.

Pertinently, the historic Mughal road and Bandipora Gurez is also closed for the vehicular movement. Besides, the Kashmir highway many roads leading to hilly areas from north Kashmir’s Kupwara were also closed. Meanwhile, the flights from Srinagar airport were also cancelled due to the bad weather.
The snowfall in Kashmir started on Friday afternoon, soon after the congregational prayers; however, the snowfall led to relief from the intense cold wave throughout the valley.
However, road clearance operations have been undertaken by beacon department since the morning,dozens of snow clearness vehicles has been deployed.
