Vigilance sets a filmy trap to catch Patwari

Srinagar, January 20: A State Revenue Department official was caught “red handed” accepting bribe by Vigilance Organisation, Kashmir.

The official has been identified as Showket Ahmad Sofi who is working as a Patwari of Halqa Natipora. He was caught, with an orderly named Abdul Rashid Dar, while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a complainant.

A written complaint was registered by Faisal Lateef, a resident of Mehjoor Nagar. He alleged that he required some extracts of a piece of land to be transferred by his maternal uncle and for that the Patwari demanded a bribe of Rs 3,500 for preparation of the necessary documents. Rs 1,500 was paid in first installment and the remaining amount of Rs 2,000 was to be paid on Tuesday.

A case has been registered against the Patwari case under the JK Prevention of Corruption Act and vigilance organization has started investigation.
