Voting begins on Srinagar constituency
Srinagar Parliamentary is going under election today. The constituency is divided into three districts – Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam.
The voting so far isn’t upto the mark. However according to sources there is brisk voting taking place at some places while at others no votes have been cast yet.
In majority of downtown areas voting has been low so far. While at Ganderbal and Budgam number is raising.
In this constituency 14 candidates will be fielding however, the main contenders remain
National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah and PDP’s senior leader Tariq Hamid Karra.
This constituency has total of 12 lakh voters, 628522 male and 572217 female, and total number of polling stations equals 1546 polling stations.
In Srinagar alone there are 804 while 540 in Budgam and 202 in Ganderbal district.
The security at all places has been tightened up since yesterday evening to conduct the elections smoothly. It is said that some 200 companies of paramilitary forces and around 100 battalions of J&K Police have been deployed to maintain security.
Police has also put a crackdown on separatist leader by putting them under house arrest plus the youth, who police consider can cause violations of laws, have been put under detention.
