SRINAGAR: Minister for Roads & Buildings (R&B), Abdul Majid Wani today reviewed the status of various on-going projects in Banihal Constituency at a high-level meeting held here today under his chairmanship.
Minister of State for Technical Education, Vikar Rasool Wani was also present in the meeting.
Expressing satisfaction on the pace of progress, the Minister called for speeding up the efforts to complete the projects in stipulated time frame. He directed the engineers to complete the macadamization of roads well before the on-set of winter season so that the benefits of road facilities reach out to the deserving population.
On the issue of land acquisition which is causing delay in some projects, the R&B Minister called for coordinated efforts to resolve the bottlenecks and directed the concerned to hold meeting of all stakeholders to immediately decide the matters so that the projects take off. He directed improving the monitoring mechanism to ensure complete accountability and transparency in the system. He also emphasized the need for maintaining quality of works strictly as per the laid down specifications and judicious use of funds on ground.
Mr. Vikar Rasool Wani demanded adequate funds for expeditious completion of all on-going projects. He also called for strengthening the existing road infrastructure in the Banihal Constituency. He underlined priority for some projects and requested the R&B Minister to allocate special funds for these.
It was informed in the meeting that 26 road projects under District Plan, 23 projects under State Plan and 20 projects have been undertaken under NABARD scheme. An amount of Rs. 83.75 lakh has been incurred against an allocation of Rs. 5.38 crore till date on these projects by the R&B Department.
Similarly, under PMGSY 15 road projects are in progress in the constituency with an estimated cost of Rs. 79.26 crore. An amount of Rs. 39.83 core has been spent on these projects till date.
Commissioner/Secretary R&B, Tanvir Jehan, Chief Engineer R&B, Jammu, Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Chief Engineer, PMGSY, D.D. Gorka, Managing Director, JKPCC, P.L. Bushan and concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
