Was SP Bashir Ahmad Dar’s killing a case of Hate Crime?
While Bashir Ahmad Dar was walking towards his home after offering prayers at a local mosque on the night of July 14, he was intercepted by militants who fired bullets upon him him multiple times, from a close range. He was left injured in the left side of his abdomen, shoulder and one of his legs and was later declared brought dead by the SMHS Hospital.
Bashir Ahmad Dar had served in the Vigilance, crime branch as Deputy SP during his tenure. However, he retired as an SP after serving in Kulgam for a good time of his service.
During his whole tenure he was known to be rigid against the terrorists and to an extreme extent also against the people, who he suspected to be colluding with the terrorists. The killing of Dar hence on the other hand, is seeming to be a case of Hate Crime as many people in the region were irked with his adamantine stance towards militancy as he had gone hard against the local people too.
Considering this,he was also advised not to stay at the mosque for more than twenty minutes for security reasons. The attack was carried out by motorcycle-borne men while the Muslim community across the Valley was observing Shab-e-Qadr.
