Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) have replaced the injured R Ashwin with Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar for their 2017 Indian Premier League campaign.
R Ashwin injured
R Ashwin had picked up a sports hernia during England’s tour of India and continued to bowl despite the pain. He managed to pull through the one-off Test match against Bangladesh and the four-Test series against Australia but was ruled out of the IPL 2017 season because of the injury.
Parvez Rasool and 17-year-old Sundar had undergone a trial session on Monday (April 3) in Pune for their selection. The Kashmir off-spinner has fair amount of experience playing in the IPL as well as in the domestic season. While Sundar made some consistent performances for Tamil Nadu in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophy tournaments.
Sundar gets selected
Washington Sundar who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off-spin, was confirmed as R Ashwin’s replacement by Rising Pune Supergiants ahead of their T20 season opener against Mumbai Indians in the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday (06 April 2017).
Disappointment for Parvez
28-year-old Rasool, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous season, couldn’t find any takers in this year’s IPL auction after RCB released him. Selection of Sundar for RPS team has confirmed that Rasool won’t get to play in this IPL season.
