SRINAGAR: At least Eighteen Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives and fifteen others were wounded in a blast in Goripora area of Awantipora on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday.
The blast was triggered by terrorists to target two vehicles carrying the CRPF jawans. The blast ripped through one of the buses the jawans were travelling in.
A police official said that around 3:15 pm, terrorists rammed the car fitted with explosives into the CRPF bus, triggered off an intensive blast.
Several people were injured in the IED blast, which reduced the bus to a mangled heap of iron.

The officer said that 18 CRPF men were martyred in the blast and fifteen others seriously wounded were shifted to Army’s 92 base hospital.
Following the blast, the traffic has been suspended on the highway as security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched searches.
As per recent reports, Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed the responsibility for IED blast targeting CRPF personnel in Pulwama.
