Srinagar: A terrorist was killed and two Army jawans were martyred in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning. While one of the soldiers was killed on the spot, the second one succumbed to his injuries later.
“One militant has been killed in an ongoing operation in Ratnipora area of Pulwama,” police sources said, as per report.
The slain terrorist was identified as Hilal Ahmad.
A top police official told that the killed terrorists were affiliated to terror outfiy Hizb ul Mujahideen.
As per details available, a cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces in Ratnipora area in South Kashmir on Monday night after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists there.
The encounter started after terrorists fired on the forces during the search operation. The security forces then retaliated.
Security forces cordoned off entire area and sealed all exit points to prevent terrorists to escape. However, with the first light this morning encounter ensued when security forces marched towards the particular area in the village.
Three soldiers were injured in the initial firing by the terrorists who tried to escape and later entered a house and a school building.
The injured were rushed to a hospital where two of them succumbed to their wounds. Another injured has been referred to 92 Base hospital. The martyred soldiers were identified as Naik Saneed and Sepoy Baljeet Singh while hawaldar Chander Pal is injured.
As a precautionary measure authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama and train service between Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region for security reasons.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Ratnipora and adjoining areas.
Recently five terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in a fierce encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. (Agencies)
