Water Submerged in Sonwar Locality; Locals Demand Dewatering System
As the flood threat is looming large over Srinagar and administration this time seems to be on tender hooks to avoid last year September flood like situation with all the men and machinery in action from past few days. But when it comes to so called posh locality of Iqbal Colony, Sonwar everything seems to a mere lie.
From past one week when ministers, bureaucrats, police and other officials are making beeline to the last time worst hit areas for accessing the on ground situation but Sonwar is being kept out of that list for reasons best known to them. Even the MLA concerned Mohd Ashraf Mir who happens to be the Minister of State for Urban Development and Power did not bother to visit the area and access the situation. As the area was badly hit in last time floods, this time too Sonwar area is bound to suffer due to official apathy as the water has entered number of houses situated in Indra Nagar, Iqbal Colony and Sonwar but authorities seems to be unmoved by our plight.
“Whenever we approach the authorities we are being told that we fall under the jurisdiction of so called Badami Bagh Cantt. Board which is there for name sake only and can’t be accessed. The so called Badami Bagh Cantt. Board which is known for its callous approach have not even bothered to visit the area nor are they being made accountable by state government of army” said by a local resident Mushtaq Ahmad.
“Now we the residents demand that either we should be de-notified from Cantonment board or else they should be made accountable before the public. Furthermore the state govt is requested to also treat us like humans and minimize our problems by paying attention to the area and at first instance dewater the area on fast track basis” said by a Nazir Ahmad a local from Iqbal colony.
The residents of the locality appealed the authorities to come to their rescue.
