Wazir Masih was a masiha of poor: Prof. Soz
JAMMU : Agrand function was organized in Ward No. 7 of Christian Colony, Jammu by All J&KChristian Minority Welfare Association to pay glorious tributes to Late Sh.Wazir Masih, Ex-MLC.
Prof.Saifuddin Soz, MP (former Union Minister) and President, Jammu & KashmirPradesh Congress Committee was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Congressleader and former National General Secretary, All India Youth Congress, Sh.Vikram Malhotra, besides, Sh. G. N. Monga MLC and Sh. Bashir Magrey MLC werethe Guests of Honour.
LateSh. Wazir Masih was the first MLC of Christian Community from Congress party in1975, who was nominated by the then Chief Minister, Sh. Mir Qasim. He passed awayin 1998 on this day (February 2nd) after rendering self-less serviceto the Christian Community for almost 25 years.
Prof.Soz gave a patient hearing to the problems and issues raised by the leaders ofthe Christian community. Sh. Gafoor Masih, Sh. Michel Masih and others raisedthe issues faced by the Christian community.
Sh.Nasir Masih, Chairman of the Association, demanded the opening of SocialWelfare Centre, better cleanliness and renovation of lanes in the Christiancolony. They also demanded reservation for the Christian community of Jammu& Kashmir.
Speakingon the occasion, Prof. Saifuddin Soz, MP, lauded the role of Late Sh. WazirMasih and his service to the poor and destitute. He urged the community leadersto follow the footsteps of Late Sh. Wazir Masih. Prof. Soz assured quickredressal of the problems faced by the Christian community and announced Rs. 1lakh from his MPLAD Fund for a computer centre and assured more funds to the shortlycoming up Social Welfare Centre at Christian Colony.
Inhis address, senior Congress leader Sh. Vikram Malhotra paid rich tributes toLate Sh. Wazir Masih and described him as source of inspiration for the presentday leadership. He appealed to the Christian community to put a united fight fortheir rights. He urged the Christiancommunity to come forward and take the benefit of Centrally Sponsored Schemesof the UPA led Government at the Centre for the Health, Education and Housing. Heassured that he will extend all the required help and cooperation to make Christiancommunity one of the most developed sections of the society. “My doors arealways open for this deprived section and all other poor and downtroddenpeople,” he further added.
