Weapon snatcher surrenders at Shopian Police station
Srinagar, March 29: Mohammad Amir, who along with his associates had snatched rifle from a policeman near Tawi Bridge in Jewel Chowk Jammu surrendered before Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian Tahir Saleem today.
Three Kashmiri youth identified as Amir, Masood and Shahid, all residents of Shopian district, attacked police constable Mohammad Hanief posted as Personal Security Officer of Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool chairman Maulana Dehlavi, near the main Tawi bridge in Jammu. last week.
They attacked the policeman with a stick and also threw chilli powder in his eyes. They snatched the AK-47 rifle from him and fled. Masood was arrested in Jewel area, Jammu and his bike was also seized while Shahid was nabbed near Toll Plaza Nagrota.
Mohammad Amir on the intervening night surrendered before SSP Shopian Tahir Saleem alongwith AK-47 rifle and magazine.
SSP Shopian confirmed the surrender of Amir and said that they were in Jammu to recover the snatched weapon.
A youth who along with his associates had snatched a rifle from a policeman in Jammu last weekend has surrendered in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
Sources said that Mohammad Aamir of Ratnipora village of Shopian surrendered before Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian Tahir Saleem.
They said that he had hidden the AK-47 rifle under a boulder near Tawi bridge in Jammu.
Two of his associates – identified as Masood and Shahid, both residents of Shopian district, were arrested immediately after they attacked a police constable Mohammad Hanief posted as Personal Security Officer of Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool chairman Maulana Dehlavi, near the main Tawi bridge in Jammu on Saturday evening.
After legal formalities, the youth was sent to Jammu, said a police official.
