What all land can make people do: 1 killed, 3 injured

RAJOURI, July 20 : A person was killed while three more were injured during a group clash in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri District late in the evening on Tuesday.

As per a Police spokesman, the families of Tara Chand and Jia Lal had a rift over an old piece of land at their village, Tanda Saleri in Tehsil Sunderbani. The two groups got into an ugly conflict around 11.30 pm on Tuesday. Both the sides started thrashing each other with lathis, sharp-edged weapons and even pelted stones at each other.
During the brawl, 55-year-old Jia Lal, son of Balak Ram, received critical injury on his head and fell down on the ground. He was rushed to the sub-divisional Sunderbani hospital late at night where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Three others were reportedly injured in the crash fight. Out of the injured, Subash Chander, son of Jia Lal, and Shakuntla Devi, wife of Jia Lal, were initially taken to the Sunderbani hospital from where the doctors referred them to GMC&H, Jammu. On the other hand, Banto Devi, wife of Tara Chand, was admitted to the Sunderbani hospital and is undergoing treatment there.

According to the Police sources, Balak Ram had given some piece of his land to his daughter at Saleri. For the past several years, both his daughter’s and son’s families were fighting over the same land and even a case was reported with the Revenue department.
The tiff between both the families resulted in loss of life of Balak Ram’s son, Jia Lal. The police reached the spot and arrested Tara Chand and his son, Romesh Kumar, who is a Government teacher by profession. A case has been registered with the Police and investigation has started.
