SRINAGAR, Apr 29: Hundreds of people on Thursday evening resorted to stone-pelting to make an action for fleeing of a militant from the spot heavely guarded by CRPF in North Kashmir’s Kupwara village.
Army’s 28 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Police and CRPF guarded Pir Mohalla area of Kantpora in Lolab in the North Kashmir district of Kupwara hearing about presence of militants.
The militants were believed to be hiding in the Pir Mohalla near the Jamia Masjid engaged in gun fight with the security forces which continued for nearly an hour.
However, hundreds of residents of Kantpora and and from other localities came out of their houses and protested. They marched towards encounter site and started stone-pelting on security forces in order to free away the trapped militants.
Later Police and CRPF fired teargas to disperse the protestors. Due to which the operation against militants got disrupted and later the security forces called off the operation. The clashes between the two sides continued till late hours.
In the meantime, militants later hurled a grenade towards Police Post Sherbagh in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. However, no loss of life or injury has been reported during the blast, while some vehicles suffered damage in the blast.
The explosion scared the local people and they rushed towards the safer places.
