Anantnag, April 20: A toddler Areesha Afroz (2) who had gone missing from the Seer Hamdan of Anantnag from a month was found dead near the Lidder river. Afroz a daughter of Afroz Ahmad Bhat, had gone missing from outside her home on March 19.

A senior police officer from the area said that Afroz parents had lodged a complaint at the local police station and since then they with help of commondos and sniffer dogs were tracking the missing girl.

The officer said the month-long hunt ended today with the recovery of the body near the Lidder in the Akura area of Anantnag district, adding that the body of the girl was handed over to the family after the medical formalities.

Police have said that it appears to be a case of drowning and the body was identified by the family by her clothes.

While the SHO did not comment on how the girl reached near the river while addressing a local daily he said that, it looks like the girl was wandering from her house to the nearby river or she might have slipped into the river as it was raining that day.

SHO, Aishmuqam, Inam-ul-Asad said that they reached the body with the help of Sniffer dogs.

Similarly a case of missing was registered after missing of a 4-year-old boy, Ayan Hameed, from the Pai Bugh area of Anantnag few days later had created panic in district.

Ayan was also found dead near a river in the Sarnal area of Anantnag couple of days back.
