Whatsapp Groups should be Registered; owners can face legal action


Jammu, April 19: Looking at the ongoing scenario in the state, the government on Monday released a circular, wherein all the Whatsapp news groups are to be certified with the respective District Magistrate. Also, according to the circular, all the government officials and workers are required not to post content concerning any plans and ideas involving government.

Any deviation from these would mean strict action against that particular person. According to sources, the district Deputy Commissioner Kupwara had imposed the circular late in the evening.

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon pointed out that the content posted on the pages of several news agencies on the social sites be monitored. He also added that before putting any news they should check with the officials. The circular has asked the Admins of all the Whatsapp groups to register their groups with the authorities for a period of ten days.


Also, if and so it happens that any news or piece of information going into such groups makes any illegitimate appearance and/or leads to any kind of disturbance, the admin of that particular group would be held responsible. The circular also asks the local authorities to keep an eye on the news and report the happenings to the management on a timely basis. The SP Kupwara, SP Handwara and all Tehsildars are to take note of all such incidents and inform the District Authorities about all proceedings.
