Jammu, September 23: A sentence of life imprisonment was awarded to a lady and her lover in Rajouri by Additional Sessions Judge Khalil Choudhary along with a fine of Rs 5,000 to each of them accused of a murder.
The victim, Mohammad Farooq, was murdered by Shahnaz Begam, his wife along with her lover Mohammad Hanief. All three were residents of Gamhir Muglan village that falls under the jurisdiction of the Manjakot police station, in Rajouri district.
Accused Shahnaz Begam and deceased Mohammad Farooq had a love marriage and they both had three children. But since, Mohammad Farooq was continuing his studies and stayed out of the house most of the times, his wife developed unlawful relations with Mohammad Hanief. This was objected by villagers and panchayat members and later they faced isolation from the society. Shahnaz along with her husband and children started living with her father at Mora Chanj village.
After a few months of things progressing the same way, on December 22, 2006, Noor Mohammad, father of deceased Mohammad Farooq lodged a missing complaint of his son. Police on investigation, found Farooq’s dead body on January 4, 2007. Further investigation revealed that the murder was committed by the accused persons with the help of Nissar Ahmed, brother of accused Shahnaz Begam.
Nissar Ahmed was minor at that time of this murder and his case was transferred to the Juvenile Court for further action while the other two accused were booked under Section 302/34 of the RPC. After a long trail at Sessions Court, both were awarded life sentence and fine.
