With no AIIMS on radar in Jammu, Coordination Committee to restart agitation
With no assurance coming from the centre or the state government for setting up an AIIMS hospital in Jammu despite deputy CM Nirmal Singh’s promise has led to outrage among the people of Jammu, and has once again brought the people, and social organizations of this region to war path. The AIIMS coordination committee which is a amalgamation of around 70 organizations based in Jammu has decided to restart the agitation, and like earlier it would be spearheaded by J&K High Court Bar Association, and Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
A meeting in this regard is scheduled to be held today to discuss the future course of action. The Coordination Committee had suspended the agitation in June because of the written assurance by Deputy CM, and Social welfare minister in coalition government. However notwithstanding the assurance made to the people of Jammu, the BJP has failed to take up the AIIMS issue at the centre, and have been left with nothing to offer to people. The deadline of the promise lapsed yesterday, and entire Jammu region which was hopeful of getting some reward from the PM during his recent visit to the region were left high and dry as no mention of any hospital has been made.
The BJP state leadership only says that they are committed to setting up AIIMS but are not willing to tell when this will happen, or even if this decision will be made ever. The AIIMS coordination Committee meanwhile will start the chain hunger strike from Tuesday morning to press on the issue which they say is crucial for the people of this region.
Even more important than the hospital they say is to stop the reign of discrimination which is being faced by the people of the region, they say.
