Woman jail officer suspended for Facebook post alleging police torture on minor girls

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh government on Saturday suspended a woman assistant jail superintendent after she did not respond to the show cause notice served to her nor did she appear for any explanation during preliminary enquiry conducted against her on her Facebook post on alleged police torture of minor girls and government imposing capitalist system in Bastar.

Varsha Dongre, the woman deputy jail superintendent had also uploaded an enraging post against killings of CRPF personnel in Sukma district.

Police sources however whispered, “Varsha is a white collared Maoist who is part of urban network of the Reds and was constantly in touch with them. Her Facebook account was also being operated by few civil rights activists who have been under the scanner for their suspicious activities. Few of them have been following her posts, reposting, liking and commenting too. Not just one but many of her posts on FB were found objectionable.”

Talking to TOI, Dr KK Gupta, DIG Jail said, “Deputy jail superintendent Varsha Dongre was suspended by Chhattisgarh government for her indiscipline and objectionable posts on Facebook which is violation of jail manual under Section 207 and code of conduct of civil services. She was found guilty during preliminary enquiry as well. Moreover, Varsha didn’t appear for any explanation nor for her duty all this while.”

Gupta added that Varsha remained absent from duty without intimation. “We received her leave application on e-mail but her leave wasn’t sanctioned and was asked to be present at office. But she didn’t care to respond and when we tried contacting her, the mobile phone was switched off.”
