A 35-year-old pregnant woman, Shameema Begum, died yesterday after she was operated on by ‘nurses’ at District Hospital Baramulla.
The deceased was a resident of Boniyar in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and married to Sajad Ahmad. She was admitted to the hospital on 2nd of May after she developed labour pain. According to the relatives, the doctors affirmed that she will undergo a normal delivery. However, contrary to what they were told, the woman was operated on by the nurses on the instruction of the attending doctor.
Towards the end of the surgery, the nurses couldn’t stitch back the sliced portion of her stomach and as a result she started bleeding profusely. Following this chaos, she referred her to LD Hospital Srinagar but by the time she and her family reached the gate of the hospital, she succumbed to her wounds.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla, Dr Syed Masood told a local daily that they have constituted a team to investigate the incident and whosoever is found guilty will be dealt under law.
