A 27-year-old woman, alleged that her in-laws had forcibly converted her to Islam and she accused her brother-in-law of rape. On Friday, when she filed the complaint she also, accused her other brother-in-law and father-in-law of molestation. When she brought the matter to her husband and his mother, they threatened her. Meanwhile, the Hindu Mahasabha arranged a ceremony in Arya Samaj Temple, Aligarh for her ‘return to Hinduism’. The case was registered by the police but, no one was arrested so far.
The couple was married in 2008 and they have two sons, who are currently living with their father’s family. In a report by the Indian Express (IE), the woman said, “In 2008, I met my husband, he introduced himself as Kabir Chauhan. We fell in love, eloped and got married in a temple. It is only after I reached his home, that I got to know he belongs to muslim family and Kabir was not his real name. A few days later, I was forcibly converted to Islam.”
She alleged that, her in-laws harrased her over petty issues, her eldest brother in-law raped her once when everybody else was is in other room. She also mentioned that, she was often molested by her father-in-law. “I was threatened with harm to my children, if I shared this with someone. I did not return to my parents’ home after I was thrown out of my house because they had cut all ties with me, when I eloped and married him. I took a shelter in Aligarh Women hostel and started teaching, to earn my leaving. Recently, I got in touch with Hindu Mahasabha and they assured me that they would help me in this.”
Civil Lines police station officer, Javed Khan confirmed the complaint to IE, “The husband and his mother were booked for harassment, while her father-in law and brother-in-law were booked for rape.
