A five-day workshop on gender sensitization through performing arts and communication skills is being organized in Parthian district of Maharashtra by Population First and Sankalp Foundation from November 29 to December 3 for college students.
The workshop aims at developing and mobilizing effective communication material through street plays and songs to create awareness about gender issues in various collages and schools of the district.
Population First has also set up “Laadli-Change Makers Clubs” since 2012 in colleges of Mumbai and SNDT Universities through NSS departments. The organization is also been conducting the girl child campaign under the name “LAADLI” for the last 10 years. It is said that the Change Makers Clubs have been helping in spreading the message of gender equality among the youth in the community.
It is informed that the Change Makers Clubs aim to involve students continuously in a dialogue on gender issues in general with a focus on enhancing the image of the girl child and women to promote gender equality. The whole idea of Change Makers Clubs is to create champions of change, to help them negotiate better gender equations in their personal life, in their communities, in their neighborhood and in public as well as workplaces.
The key objectives of the gender sensitivity workshops and the clubs are to help reduce gender imbalances in the population, sensitize the youth and media to gender and social development issues and also work towards gender sensitive and social development oriented health and population programs, informs Population First.
