Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar who has been known to support the Indian Armed Forces has helped raise Rs 6.5 crore at an event for the families of the martyred soldiers.
Khilaadi Kumar at an event, India Rising, made an impromptu speech informing the businessmen about the website, www.bharatkeveer.gov.in where anybody can make donations for the families of the martyred soldiers. As soon as he mentioned it, the CEOs from various organisations collectively made donations worth Rs 6.5 crores.
The actor began by talking about the current status of the website, which has details of 112 soldiers who lost their lives. According to the policy of the site, the details of the soldiers stay on till the family does not receive a total of Rs 15 lakh.
In his speech, Akshay also spoke about how the martyrs are there in various parts of India and how every one of the CEOs can adopt a martyr from at least one state. As soon as Akshay said this, the donations started coming in. Motilal Oswal, the host pledged to donate to all the martyrs on the site of Jammu and Kashmir presently listed on the site. Vicky Oberoi one of the close friend of Akshay chose Andhra Pradesh. Within minutes Akshay helped almost 60% of the families of the martyrs to get the target money. The website was launched by Ministry of Home Affairs in April.
