1: Sunil Lanba takes over as Indian Navy chief
Admiral Sunil Lanba on Tuesday assumed command of the Indian Navy, as the 23rd chief of naval staff. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Lanba has been the Flag Officer commanding-in-chief of the Southern and Western Naval Commands.
2: Petrol, diesel prices hiked
Petrol price was hiked by Rs.2.58 a litre and diesel by Rs.2.26 per litre, an announcement from Indian Oil Corp. (IOC). The prices were last hiked on May 17.
3: Lakhanpur Accident, driver dies on spot
A Maruti Zen car bearing registration number PB02V 0141 enroute Punjab from Jammu collided with a bus at Lakhanpur with registration no UP22T 6008 come from Punjab around 7:30 am yesterday.

5: CM Reaches Anantnag, Files Nomination Papers
Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti reached South Kashmir’s Anantnag district early Wednesday and filed her nomination papers for the assembly seat. Ms Mehbooba will be facing NC’s Iftikhar Misger, Congress’ Hilal A Shah and Independent Er Sheikh Ab Rasheed.
6: Dead body of a woman found behind Jammu University
A woman speculated to be in her late 30’s or early 40’s was murdered and thrown in a deserted place behind the university premises. The corpse was moved to GMC’s mortuary immediately and investigation has started.
7: From a labourer to Graduate to an entrepreneur
To support his family Anwar Hussain used to work as a labourer. He won a 8.57 Lakh project from JKEDI with which today he provides livelihood to five people four of which are local girls thus empowering women.
8: MBBS Student dies as car driver tries to save motorist from dying
A MBBS student died while another got injured in a road accident on the National Highway near Sakta Chak around noon on Tuesday. The mishap happened while the driver was trying to save a motorist.
9: Don’t implement budget: J&K speaker
Jammu and Kashmir assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday suspended the orders of the state finance minister on implementing the budget for 2016-17 till it is passed by the house.
10: BOPEE to conduct MBBS, BDS entrance test on July 31
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) would conduct the entrance test for MBBS and BDS courses on July 31. The examination would be conducted on a single day, with forenoon session having Physics and Chemistry paper and afternoon session having Biology paper.
11: Female patients increasing at Mental Hospital
The lower house of the state legislature was informed on Wednesday that the number of female patients is increasing at the Kashmir’s only Psychiatric Hospital at Kathi Darwaza in Old Srinagar.
12: Bollywood comedian Razak Khan dies after cardiac arrest
Bollywood comedian Razak Khan, who played comic roles in around a 100 movies in the past 25 years, passed away here following a heart attack, a family member said.
13: Summer vacations announced
Summer vacations in schools falling under the summer zone of Jammu division will commence from 6 June 2016 and culminate on the 17th of July 2016.
14: LPG cylinder, Aviation fuel made costlier
The price of non-subsidised cooking gas has been raised by Rs.21 per 14.2-kg cylinder. It will now cost Rs 548.50 in Delhi as against Rs 527.50 previously. Previously, on May 1 prices were raised by Rs 18 on Non-subsidised cylinders.
15: BJP-leader arrested for molesting a 13-year-old
A 13-year-old girl has alleged that a BJP leader Ashok Makwana molested her on board a Goa-Ahmedabad flight on May 29. The leader was later arrested on Tuesday, by Police.

Security forces have arrested Noor Mohammad Dar a close aide of most wanted Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani from Tral area of south Kashmir.
17: Trade bodies call for bandh on Saturday if taxes not rolled back
Various trade bodies yesterday urged the business establishments to down their shutters on Saturday, June 4 to protest against the budget proposals in case government failed to roll back the taxes.
18: Advocate General D C Raina resigns to ‘tend to his family
D C Raina, the Advocate General of the state submitted his resignation to the government on wednesday and will formally reach the authority on Thursday at 4 pm. The reason he has submitted his resignation is due to illness of his wife, and from now on will be giving time to his family.
