YOUR TAKE: Should the artificial lake project be cancelled

The project of artificial lake was started during the tenure of NC-Congress coalition government. The Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed recently hinted at shelving of this project of artificial lake by declaring the project not ‘feasible’. We interacted with the people mainly associated with the tourists to get their reactions about whether they feel that the project would do any good for Jammu city in terms of tourism.

The work of the artificial lake on river Tawi was started only after the project was examined by engineers and technicians during the tenure of UPA Government at the centre. Jammu being ‘The City of Temples’ is mostly dependent on tourists and I appeal to the state government that the artificial lake on river Tawi be constructed and completed soon.

The traders are already facing a lot of hardships due to the opening of Railway Station at Katra. To attract pilgrims, tourists, the government should complete this artificial lake project so that tourists will get attracted towards the lake as well as the city.

The work on the artificial lake should be completed soon so that the tourists visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra will find some interest in coming to Jammu. The Lake will become one of the many sights for tourists to visit. I think that the government needs to look for some more tourist circuits in the Jammu region to attract more and more tourists.

I have been listening to the story of the lake going to be completed for a few years now. I find it strange as well as shocking that the government is considering to shelve the artificial lake project. The artificial lake project will play an important role to attract tourists towards Jammu and the government needs to plan better before cancelling the project altogether.
