JAMMU: Hundreds of youth congress activists gathered at Press Club Jammu in order to show the resentment to the union government (NDA) and Pakistan for not taking any action against the repeated cease fire violations and shelling in Border areas and LOC in Jammu & Kashmir. They marched towards Tawi Bridge in the shape of a rally and also burned the effigy of Pakistan. They blocked Tawi Bridge near Dogra chowk where police lathicharged them. Several youth congress leaders and workers were also injured due to the lathicharge by J&K police. Dr. Uma Shanker Pandey, National Secretary, incharge J&K along with Shahnawaz Choudhary, State president of Pradesh Youth Congress, Pranav Shagotra, Vice President PYC, Manjeet Singh & Abid Kashmiri, State General Secretaries , Rajveer Singh, Secretary of Pradesh Youth Congress and Neeraj Kundan, State president of NSUI were present in the rally. They were carrying banners and posters in their hands and chanting slogans against Pakistan. They also burnt the effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister. At Tawi Bridge Youth activists were intercepted by the Police and lathi charged in which several youths got injured.
While addressing the agitating youth activists, Shahnawaz Choudhary, State President of youth Congress said that Pakistan is continuously shelling on Indian borders in J&K state but unfortunately our Prime Minister is not bothered about their lives and is busy with his political campaigns. People of border areas are suffering at large and are shifted to various relief camps and education of children is badly affected but NDA government is having no feeling for it. He added that Modi Ji shall take serious steps to rehabilitate the victims of cross border firing and shelling by Pakistanis.
Pranav Shagotra, Vice President PYC said that it is very unfortunate that when people are losing their lives and our union government is busy with their selfish motives. We will not keep silence on it and we will keep fighting for the rights of residents of border areas of state.
Manjeet Singh & Abid Kashmiri, state general secretaries and Rajveer Singh, state secretary of youth congress also addressed the rally and strongly condemned the NDA government for its inaction on the issue.
Speaking on the occasion PYC leaders criticized NDA Govt. for its failure to tackle the border issues properly. They said that whenever NDA comes to power, the neighboring countries show their teeth. In the year 1999, the NDA Govt. did not availed the opportunity of giving proper reply to Pakistan, the aggressor at that time. Barking dogs seldom bite, the old saying suits fit on the NDA, they added.Youth Congress activists demanded compensation package for border shelling victims and rehabilitation of the victims and said that they will not calm down till the issue is completely solved to the satisfaction of affected people. They also demanded that the NDA government shall take serious steps in order to stop the shelling and cross border firing by the Pakistan. “Due to unprovoked firing by the Pakistan Army the people who are residing along the border face lot of hardships. In the recent firing many people are putting in camps and they are not getting proper facilities besides the education of children also affected. They said that it would be better, if all the border families have their shelters in safe places, so that they can shift themselves when ever border disturbs and for this purpose the Govt. should provide 5 marlas plot to each family and also help in construction of shelters and this scheme will go a long way to tackle the problems of border area people” added the agitating youth congress leaders.
