Farmers sensitized about management of fruit disease


SRINAGAR: In order to sensitize farmer’s about the management of various diseases of fruit crop, an awareness camp was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora at Shadipora Sumbal of Sonawari tehsil. The camp was attended by the Chief Horticulture Officer along with his field officers, scientists of KVK besides progressive orchardists.
During the camp various issues of recent scenario of scab, alternaria, leaf blotch root rot, collar rot, mite, aphid infestation problems were discussed. Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) of KVK Dr. Farooq Ahmed highlighted the importance of adoption of spray schedule as recommended by SKUAST, Kashmir. He also conveyed the university message which has recently been published with regard to scab control.
Later, a joint diagnostic visit was conducted to a number of orchards with moderate to heavy scab infestation (20-25%), and slight incidence of alternaria and mite. Accordingly the farmers were advised to spray their orchards with proper pesticides/fungicide.
