As per confirmed reports, the car was being rashly driven and reached the check post at 2.33 pm on Monday. The men at the checkpost signaled the driver of the car to stop it but he did not. The car was possibly moving towards Jammu or Reasi.

The Station House Officer, Sunderbani police station, Narinder Singh who was  present at the checkpost said that there were two other persons sitting inside the car in combat dress. The dirver of the car was driving so fast that the police personnel deployed at the naka could not read the complete number of the car.

Sources also said that the same car had halted at a refilling station at Rajal near the Tain bridge at around 1 after which the petrol pump employee informed personnel of the Army’s road opening party that the occupants of the car were looking suspicious and were possibly carrying weapons.

After the car went past check post, a message was also flashed in the PCT, Jammu and high alert was sounded in the Reasi, Udhampur and Jammu districts and a search was conducted in the entire area near the refilling stations. The senior police officials also questioned the petrol station employee.

However, nothing serious was found after further investigations and this raises questions over the alertness of the police.

According to the DIG of Police, Rajouri-Poonch range, AK Attri, “a white car was following an Army convoy and could have been hired by the Army to ferry its men and may be that was why the policemen at the naka did not stop the car.”

“However, messages have been flashed to the Jammu, Udhampur and Reasi police chiefs for action in case anti-national elements were present in the car. We have not received any feedback from these districts yet,” he added.
