Husband, Mother-in-law Among 3 Held for Woman’s Murder in Kishtwar


The Kishtwar police have claimed to have solved the case of suicide of Neetu Devi wife Lokesh Kumar on July 11, 2021, in Hodna village under Chhatru police station of Mughalmaidan tehsil. On Saturday, the police arrested the husband, Jeeta and mother-in-law for the murder of the woman. An investigation has revealed that all three of them had strangled them to death with a dupatta.

On July 11, a case of the suspected suicide of Neetu Devi came to light in Hodna village. In this, the body was brought for the last rites without informing his parents. On information, the police took the body into custody. In this regard, an investigation was started by registering a case under 174. Initially, the in-laws of the deceased woman had told her that she had committed suicide by hanging. However, during interrogation, some irregularities were confirmed in the case.

Considering the sensitivity of the case, SSP Shafqat Hussain Butt constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of ASP Rajendra Singh. After interrogation, it was revealed that the woman Neetu Devi was murdered by her husband Lokesh Kumar, brother-in-law Gwash Lal and mother-in-law Devki Devi by strangling her with a dupatta. The three accused were arrested on Saturday. The investigation revealed that the deceased woman’s in-laws wanted to get Kumar’s second marriage done. That’s why they have done the crime in a planned manner.
