Shubham Jadhav, the 20-year-old engineering student who was killed in a road accident in Chinchwad area on early Sunday morning, was live on Instagram seconds before the accident took place, police officials said.
Jadhav’s cousin, Hrishikesh Pawar who was in the passenger’s seat, was broadcasting the drive when the accident happened. .
The video shows a smiling Jadhav and the car’s speedometer displaying the vehicle speeding at above 120km per hour. The young driver is seen not wearing a seat belt.
In a flash, the car hit a light post and then crashed into a supporting concrete pole built on the divider inside the grade separator located in Morwadi area of Chinchwad. The front portion of the car was completely damaged, killing the driver instantly and critically injuring Pawar.
The fire department officials from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) rushed to the spot and retrieved the two from the wreckage by cutting the front portion of the car.
“No one should dare to drive like that (at high speed). I have lost my son,” said Jadhav’s mother while speaking to a local news channel.
Pawar, 18, a first-year student of BCom was staying over at Jadhav’s home for the night.
“The deceased and the injured are maternal cousins. Jadhav had stayed over at Pawar’s house located in Empire Estate and they had gone out for early morning tea. Pawar’s uncle had left the key of the car at his house, so they decided to drive the car. We are yet to verify whether Jadhav had a licence,” said assistant police inspector DP Suryavanshi of Pimpri police station, who is investigating the case.
