Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed for calm and peace in Delhi, amid communal clashes that have claimed the lives of at least 23 people including a policeman so far.
In his first remarks on the violence that erupted in northeast Delhi on Sunday, the PM said it was important to restore calm and normalcy at the earliest.
“Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest,” the PM tweeted.
“Had an extensive review on the situation prevailing in various parts of Delhi. Police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy,” the PM said further, assuring that the security agencies were working to restore normalcy.
