It isn’t an unknown fact that India’s two top-performers in the form of skipper Virat Kohli and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah aren’t going through the best of times with the bat and ball respectively. Their failures have jolted the progress of the national team as Team India fell apart like nine pins in the first Test, of the two-match series, versus New Zealand in Wellington.
While Bumrah returned with match figures of 26.4-5-89-1, Kohli had scores of 2 and 19 at Basin Reserve, Wellington as India lost the first Test by a whopping 10-wicket margin. As a result, both Bumrah and Kohli fell behind in the ICC Test Rankings released ahead of the second and final Test versus New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch from February 29 (Saturday).
Here’s a look at the ICC Test Rankings for batters, which sees Kohli take the second spot and lose the numero uno position to Australia’s Steve Smith. The top ten still includes four Indians with Mayank Agarwal making his first appearance in the top ten.
On the other hand, the top ten for the Test Rankings for bowlers now has a sole Indian in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin whereas Bumrah is out of the top ten (11th spot).
